What's the deal with pomegranate juice...it seems to be the new "healthy" juice. Can you tell me some of its benefits?

Pomegranates are fruits that are rich in three disease fighting polyphenols, which are a type of antioxidant. Ellagic acid, tannins, and anthocyanins are the polyphenols that are credited with reducing risk of cancer and heart disease. Pomegranate juice contains a high amount of these polyphenols and several studies have shown many protective health benefits. For example, pomegranates have been shown to reduce atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries, thereby reducing risk of heart disease. In addition, pomegranates can help prevent disease progression in men with prostate cancer. Drinking approximately 8 ounces of pomegranate juice a day may help keep prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels stable. Finally, pomegranate juice can help protect against oxidative stress, which can lead to harmful deposits in our nervous system. It is hypothesized that this protection may reduce onset of Alzheimer’s disease.
