Old Orchard Brands Support Flood-Ravaged Ames, IA with Major Donation of Juice

SPARTA, Mich., August 16, 2010— Officials in Ames, Iowa have asked residents to conserve more of their water after historic flooding left the town with no sources of drinking water. Old Orchard Brands, coordinating with Hy-Vee, Inc., is supporting Red Cross efforts in the community today by donating 1,000 cases (equivalent to a full truckload) of high quality fruit juice and juice products to the residents of Ames.

“Old Orchard has long been committed to giving back and helping others in times of need. We have many loyal customers in Ames and we wanted to show them our support through this donation as they cope with this difficult time,” said Mark Saur, CEO of Old Orchard Brands.

The city of Ames was forced to close its water system on Wednesday, August 11 after officials discovered broken water mains in largely flooded areas, leaving residents with no access to safe drinking water.

Old Orchard rushed a mixed supply of juices to two Hy-Vee stores in Ames: 3800 Lincoln Way and 640 Lincoln Way. From there, Hy-Vee and the Red Cross will distribute the variety of 64 oz juices to local families.

The flooding in Ames followed three nights of heavy rain which caused creeks and rivers in central Iowa to swell, forcing hundreds of residents Ames, Des Moines and Colfax to abandon their homes.
