Everyone knows that fruits and veggies are good for you; I would like to know what are the healthiest fruits with the least amount of sugar?

Great question! You are right; all produce is very good for you. People that consume increased amount of fruits and vegetables have lower incidence of heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. Fruits contain a lot of healthy vitamins, minerals, and natural sugar. Like all sugar, if eaten in high amounts (and if not paired with protein or fiber) it can lead to high blood sugar levels. So, I do recommend that people monitor how many fruits they eat per day. And, like you asked, there are some fruits that tend to have higher sugar contents. Some of them include: pears, apples, bananas, peaches, pineapples, and grapes. If you want to consume fruits with less natural sugar, you could opt to eat citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruit and various berries like blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. The berries are very rich in cancer fighting phytochemicals like flavonoids, ellagic acid, and resveratrol. Citrus fruits also contain high amounts of vitamin C and other healthy phytochemicals such as carotenoids and limonene. But, intake of a good variety of fruits and vegetables is needed to achieve optimum health so remember that the fruits on the “high” sugar list are still very healthy for you. Just be sure to consume them (and all fruits) in moderation and as part of a balanced diet including lots of whole grains, lean proteins, and produce!
