If I want to start eating healthier, what juices would you recommend?
It is fantastic that you are interested in embarking on a healthy weight loss journey. Healthy and sustainable weight loss can be achieved by choosing a variety of healthy, low energy dense foods (fruits, vegetables, low fat dairy, whole grains) and increasing your physical activity. Old Orchard has a wide variety of juices that not only taste great, but can be a very healthy part of your diet. I try to have at least one glass of Old Orchard’s Healthy Balance Juice (Cranberry Apple) every day. It is low in sugar and calories, which helps me to stay at a healthy weight. It is really versatile as well. Lately I have been mixing it with club soda and garnishing with a lime for a refreshing summertime drink! I also enjoy it as part of a spritzer cocktail by adding a little vodka, ice, strawberries, and Old Orchard Healthy Balance Juice to the blender. A few quick pulses allow for a great outdoor cocktail. But other people may feel differently.
Another juice with potential health benefits is Old Orchard 100% Grape Juice. It can contain increased amounts of the antioxidant resveratrol, which has been hypothesized to help lower risk of some cancer. Some studies show that it may also help lower bad cholesterol and help to reduce risk of blood clots. However, I remind my patients that, while 100% grape juice may be good for their overall health, it still contains increased amounts of calories and (natural) sugar. If you are looking for a grape juice option that is lower in calories and sugar, Healthy Balance Grape juice is a great option for you. It contains only 25 calories per 8 ounces, and I personally think it tastes very similar to regular grape juice. While the Healthy Balance juice does not contain the same amount of pure grape juice as the 100% grape juice, it does contain 100% of your daily requirement for vitamin C, which is an important antioxidant for our body.
One healthy rule for sustainable weight loss is to start to move more. I encourage my patients to take part in some sort of daily physical activity. I would encourage you to do a combination of resistance training (pushups, squats, dumbbell work or resistance band exercises) and metabolic work to get your heart rate up and kick start your metabolism. If you are like me, starting a new exercise routine can leave you with sore muscles, and one of Old Orchard’s juices may be perfect if this is the case. Their 100% Premium Tart Cherry Juice contains chemicals called antioxidants, which possess anti-inflammatory qualities, perfect to help reduce muscle inflammation. Also, cherry juice has been hypothesized to help reduce inflammation associated with sore muscles and arthritis. The antioxidants may help reduce the presence of uric acid and nitric oxide, which can contribute to inflammation and pain around the joints. And, 100% tart cherry juice may even help improve sleep and memory for some people!Login to Favorite
