Perfectly Popped Corn

Contributed by tashaheavens

  • 1 bag or can of corn kernels. It should say that it is suitable for pop corn!
  • Sprinkles of either salt, or sugar (or sugar alternatives) or both!
  • Oil

  1. Heat 3 Tbsp. of oil into a thick, deep set pan. You can use corn oil, vegetable oil, olive oil or flavoured oil (if you can find one you think will be palatable).
  2. Drop one kernel into the pan. When it pops, move to step no. 3.
  3. Add a layer of corn to the pan making sure that it is literally one layer thick. If you add too much you’ll end up burning it.
  4. Cover the pan with a lid and flip the pan up and down so that the mixture has space to move around.
  5. Listen until all the kernels have stopped popping. There should be at least a 2 second delay in between.
  6. Transfer to a big bowl.
  7. Sprinkle with either salt or sugar. I sometimes use equal to watch the waistline or; Heat up a generous knob of butter in a pan. You can either pour that straight over the popcorn or you can go one step further and melt down some sugar in it too. It’s really up to you!
