What are the benefits of nutritious eating?
Answered by registered dietitian Amy Bragagnini, MS, RD, CSO
There are countless benefits to eating healthy. Consuming a healthy and well-rounded diet can help not only extend your life but also help you look and feel younger the whole time! Consuming a nourishing diet can lead to: strong bones and teeth, a healthy heart and GI system, beautiful skin, an improved memory, restful sleep, etc. I could go on and on here. Most importantly, following a healthy diet can help prevent many life threatening diseases. A diet consisting of: ~5-7 servings of fruits and veggies, lean protein sources (lean meats, fish, and low fat dairy), complex carbohydrates (whole grains, nuts, beans), and plenty of water, can drastically reduce incidence of cancer, heart disease, type-2 diabetes, stroke, etc.
Old Orchard is such a fantastic company. I have worked with them for 9 years and I believe in them because they believe in their customers. Their goal is to deliver a variety of delicious juices that are filled with vitamins and minerals. They have a variety of juices that can meet so many specific needs. The Healthy Balance Juices are low in calories and added sugar and are perfect for those with diabetes or those watching their weight. The 100% juice line is filled with disease fighting antioxidants and can help naturally boost your immune system. If you have muscle aches and pain, the 100% tart cherry juice may help reduce inflammation and help ease some of those aches. And for those people who consume organic foods, they have an Organic juice line that is USDA Certified Organic! I especially love their website. It is filled with helpful links to help you improve your diet. You should check out some of their healthy recipes. I have tried out a few on my family and they loved how fantastic the food tasted. I loved how the recipes allowed me to deliver healthy AND tasty food to my family! Old Orchard is environmentally friendly as well. There are many suggestions on how to “reduce, reuse, recycle” some of their containers to promote the health of our environment. And best of all…Old Orchard wants so badly for their consumers to be as healthy as possible that they have a registered dietitian available (me!) to answer consumer questions and to write articles to help educate consumers on the various aspects of food and nutrition. If you have a chance, check out the Blog section of the website. There you will be able to review many of my past Q&A’s along with several articles.
Finally, let me close by saying that registered dietitians all around encourage their clients to improve their diet and lifestyle. But I want to let you know that I do not believe that there is a “perfect” diet. Certainly I want my clients to add healthy foods on a regular basis and limit foods that are overly processed and that contain a lot of added sugar and fat. But I do believe that there is room in every diet for fun too. I certainly enjoy sweet and salty “junk” foods now and again but the key is that I don’t consume large quantities of them and I don’t necessarily do it every day. Finding a “healthy balance” has always been my motto!Login to Favorite
